The start of International conference “From Applied Research To Entrepreneurship: Promoting Innovation-Driven Start-Ups And Academic Spin-Offs” Print

On November 9, 2010 the International conference “From Applied Research to Entrepreneurship: Promoting Innovation-Driven Start-Ups and Academic Spin-Offs” began its work at National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

The conference participants were greeted by Mykhaylo Zgurovsky, Rector of NTUU “KPI”, Sergiy Tigipko, Vice Prime Minister for Economy of Ukraine, Volodymyr Semynozhenko, Head of State Committee for Science, Innovation and Information Support of Ukraine, Victor Ivchenko, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, and H.E. Mr. Olav Berstad, Ambassador of Norway to Ukraine.

The solemn opening ceremony of the Conference was attended by representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukrainian Science and Technology Center, UN Economic Commission for Europe, Embassy of the United States of Ukraine, as well as research and academic staff and students of National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

Greetings from Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Borys Paton, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were read out to the conference participants.

Conference 2010

At its fourth session held on 28-30 September 2009 the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Integration (CECI) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) “welcomed a growing volume of technical cooperation services and capacity-building activities provided by CECI to countries with economies in transition and asked the Secretariat to continue seeking synergies between the activities and capacity-building events organized by different Teams of Specialists and networks of experts.”

In accordance with this request, and after consultations with the authorities and other stakeholders in Ukraine, it was agreed to hold an

 

International Conference
“From Applied Research to Entrepreneurship: Promoting Innovation-driven Start-ups and Academic Spin-offs“

and Capacity-building Seminar
“Intellectual Property Management at Public Research Organizations”

in Kyiv, Ukraine,
from 9 to 11 November 2010.

 

The two events aim at knowledge-sharing and capacity-building in the three interrelated CECI thematic areas:

  • Entrepreneurship and enterprise development,
  • Commercialization of intellectual property rights, and
  • Financing of innovation.

Working languages of the conference are English, Russian and Ukrainian.
